WELCOME TO THE
BALTIMORE CHAPTER OF THE GIRL FRIENDS, INC.
ABOUT OUR CHAPTER
In 1930, The Baltimore Bugs became the Baltimore Chapter of The Girl Friends, Incorporated, the third group invited to join the Girl Friends. The friendship between Baltimore’s Anita Wheatley and Philadelphia’s Liz Young triggered the invitation. Charter members were Dottie Bostic, Elsie Dotson, Laura Jones, Agnes Patterson, Eliza Robinson, Irma Roy, Frances Vessels, Anita Wheatley and Mae Williams.
One year later, in 1931, Mae Parrott and Vivian “Buster” Marshall joined the group. Six years later in 1936, the Baltimore Chapter proudly sponsored the Washington, D.C. Chapter and fifty years later in 1986, they sponsored the Potomac Chapter.
Due to the efforts of Boy Friend Thurgood Marshall, United States Supreme Court Justice and the husband of GF Vivian “Buster” Marshall, the national body was incorporated in Baltimore on September 23, 1938.
